Matt Piell on Sustainability Practices Throughout Georgia David Piell Trussville AL
New technology can convert expired alcoholic beverages and sugary drinks into a sustainable fuel that can lower dependence on fossil fuels. This is one of many alternative technologies used by Matt Piell and Synergy Solutions in Crisp County, Ga.
Synergy Solutions, led by Matt Piell as CEO and executive chairman, focuses on turning waste into usable products. In addition to sustainable fuels, it also will produce biochar, which is a soil stabilizer sold to farmers. The headquarters is located in Cordele, Ga, about two hours south of Atlanta. The company is adding a recycling center and is expected to grow within the next few months to employ about 120 employees, all with full-time benefits such as health insurance. Its expansion gives it the ability to turn waste that otherwise would go into landfills throughout Georgia into useful products. In fact, Matt Piell has positioned the company so that its machines can handle any product, container or amount of waste.
The company will be one of the largest employers in Cordele. Its contribution to the revitalization of Cordele and its ability to support other businesses there through the spending power of its employees is a key company value.
Matt Piell joined Synergy Solutions soon after its founding and has used his knowledge of green energy to help the company become a leader in its field. The company has received several honors, including winning the E3 award from the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce in 2018. That award recognizes companies in the Atlanta area who lead efforts in sustainability.
Synergy Solutions is one of more than $100 million in real estate investments managed by Matt Piell. Beginning in 2002, Matt Piell became the managing member of several real estate companies throughout Mississippi and Alabama. These companies, in turn, acquired various commercial real estate properties and subdivisions, apartment buildings, and high-rise condominiums. Matt Piell also oversaw the acquisition of a ski front property in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Matt Piell studied music and counseling at Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Ala. in the 1990s. From there Matt Piell worked with the late Hap Gwaltney at Daniel Realty on the Greystone Residential Project also in Birmingham. Greystone, with its 750 homes and a senior PGA Tournament Golf Course, became one of the largest golf course community developments in Alabama. His work with the Greystone Project helped Matt Piell to develop leadership skills, as well as skills in finance, marketing, insurance, and advertising. These skills have been used in his later ventures, including his most recent position at Synergy Solutions.
